General Cardenas flew the B-29 which carried Chuck Yeager aloft to his speed of sound record breaking flight. After evading capture during World War II, Cardenas returned to the states to flight test captured German aircraft. After the war, he was the lead test pilot on the YB-49, the original flying wing. His medals include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Service Medal and the Purple Heart. General Cardenas flew the B-29 which carried Chuck Yeager aloft to his speed of sound record breaking flight. After evading capture during World War II, Cardenas returned to the states to flight test captured German aircraft. After the war, he was the lead test pilot on the YB-49, the original flying wing. His medals include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Service Medal and the Purple Heart.
